I have been meaning to post some of the things that we have been working lately, sorry I am so behind! Last week we were working on main idea and supporting details. We worked on several stories that the kids did an awesome job on. So we made this anchor chart together explaining how supporting details work.
Next we used this awesome graphic organizer from Brain pop with a story we had just written as a class. We wrote the main idea on the top and the supporting details on the legs. It really helped the kids get a visual of how supporting details work.
We have also been working on graphing and tally tables. This was one activity that we did where I gave them the tally tables and they had to create a graph from the data that it provided. (It seems this dry erase marker was in bad shape..lol)
The students matched up tally tables to the correct graph. This is one of my favorite centers! The kids are able to practice using data and graphs together which seems to be a challenge sometimes.
We are also starting to work on ABC order and dictionary skills. This is my students most favorite center! Kung Fu Critters! The students put the words in ABC according to the different categories and characters. These words are only to the first letter so that they can get the basics mastered.
Next we are working on dictionary skills. The students have to match the puppies to the correct doghouses with the correct guide words on them. We pretty much work on dictionary skills all year long. Those guide words always confuse them so this was excellent practice and the kids really caught on quickly.
If you loved any of these centers check them out here! I finally got them all organized so everything is easy to find. Thanks!
