Persuasive Writing

This week has been a great week and we are still working on persuasive writing. I think the kids are finally getting the hang of it. It can be so difficult to get them to make that connection on how to properly write a persuasive writing piece. We had a very fun assignment that we were working on this week. I really wanted to get the kids excited about our writing assignment so I made them a fun deal. They were to write me a letter and try to persuade me to buy them ice cream. If they were successful at doing this then I would really buy them ice cream at lunch on Friday! Well the kids were so excited and were definitely motivated for this assignment! I was happy that I had sparked their interest! First we created a graphic organizer to help them think of reasons why I should purchase the ice cream for them. Boy did I get some interesting answers!

One student told me that this ice cream was going to help him focus! Too cute! lol

Next, the students used this information to help them write. They added more details and information and came up with some pretty convincing letters! They also used the ice cream printable to make ice cream cones and write adjectives to describe their ice cream on the scoops. This was to help make their writing more interesting. They had to use these adjectives in their writing. The printable can be used as a template or they can color it and put it together. 

After we were all done I had some pretty convincing papers! I am highly impressed! I think I am going to treat the whole class to ice cream tomorrow for all of their hard work! If this is something that you think you can use in your class check it out here!

After our field trip we did a another cute persuasive writing assignment. It was all about on Peter Pan, which was the play we saw. The kids had so much fun with this and I really had some great persuasive arguments on whether or not Peter Pan should go to jail for pushing Captain Hook over the boat. Check them out!
