I am always looking for new ways to improve calendar time. I use calendar folders which are awesome and keeps the kids engaged. I also use calendar on the mimio which is great but I took down my normal wall calendar. It just seemed to be really boring. I soon found that they really needed that visual in the classroom even though I was doing calendar on the mimio.
That is one of the reasons this calendar is perfect. You can use it in a basic way if you use the mimio or you can use it as your main calendar for calendar math. You can add and take away whatever you want and add your own personal activities that relate to what standard you are covering that week. You can also adapt it to any grade level by adding your own inserts. (green square)
There are no loose cards to lose. I REALLY hate all of those pieces. I lose at least 1 piece per year! That was one reason having everything on a hook was the greatest thing ever! I saw something similar on a homeschool blog and changed it to work for me and my students and it came out perfect!
The kids can totally run this calendar independently if necessary! Everything is there that they need. For the money part I added a vinyl pouch that they add coins to or you can add velcro strips. it is totally up to you! In the middle where the green square is located is where you can add your own inserts in the page protector that caters to what you are working on. It will blend easily with the basic design that I implemented. It can match any theme because I used all basic colors. You can back it on whatever color construction paper that you like to really match your current color scheme. There are 85 pages that include every number and word you will need. Everything is color coded and easy to put together. This will save you lots of time! All you need are some rings and push pins and a stapler! I can't wait for my kiddos to use this!!

This is what I am working on right this minute (well minus the break I am taking to comment:-) I will have to post pics soon. Do your rings stay on the tacks? I bought command hooks, hoping things will fall off the wall a little bit less this year.

Yes they do, I tried the command hooks but those didn't lay flat so the push pins worked great and were cheaper!!
