Phonics Rules Made Easy and a FREEBIE!

I hope you guys are having a great weekend! I am, but of course I am working also. Next week is our second week of school and we are focusing on phonics hard this year. We changed our spelling curriculum from Sitton and now everything is based on word work and phonics, which I think is excellent. I have always taught phonics to my kids but they never really get all of the rules. There are so many rules and so many exceptions! It is hard to keep up! I discovered many rules when researching this that I didn't even know. We naturally learn to memorize as we learn which makes decoding very difficult when learning new words.

I started searching for resources for phonics rules. I could not find anything on TpT and the resource books that I found are boring and hard for them to understand. So of course I had to make my own!

This will probably be my most valuable resource this year in my classroom! There are posters for each phonics rule that explains them with examples. I added smaller versions of those posters so  that you can attach them to a ring and put them in your writing centers and literacy centers for the kids to reference. I also included a pre and post assessment so that you can see where your kids are and what you need to reteach based on each rule. This is exactly what I was looking so for and I can't wait to use these next week!

I plan to use them in my mini lessons and morning work. Each day I will post a poster and the morning work/D.O.L. will focus on that specific rule after I have taught it to them. I hope that you find these useful! Enjoy! Purchase here.

A little freebie for you! We have been working on handwriting and tall, fall, and small letters.
